Professor Alberto Saal (Brown University, RI, USA) is our guest for a few months, thanks to a funding from the STUDIUM. Alberto is a renowned researcher whose discoveries in geochemistry have led to a paradigm shift for the Earth sciences community. 1) He has demonstrated the small-scale heterogeneous nature of the Earth's mantle. 2) He provided first observational constraints on the amount of carbon stored in the Earth's interior, an essential parameter of the terrestrial carbon cycle. 3) Finally, Alberto made an essential discovery about the presence of magmatic water on the Moon, changing the opinion of the geoscientific community that the Moon was an absolute dry land.
Benefits of Alberto Saal's visit will result from interactions, brainstorming, data interpretation and dissemination of knowledge to students and young researchers. He will be working with Ken, Fabrice and Estelle, among others. Alberto is in the laboratory until the end of June, sharing Sandrine's office. Welcome Alberto!
