Experimental photochemistry to characterize exoplanet habitability

Abstract

The habitability of planets outside our own Solar System remains difficult to assess given the lack of constraints on their atmospheric properties. Using laboratory experiments simulating photochemistry, we moniter the mechanisms controlling the stability and evolution of the atmospheric composition as well as the formation and optical properties of atmospheric aerosols affecting climate and observations. Understanding these processes is key to interpret future observations with the James Webb Space Telescope and prepare future space missions targeting habitable worlds such as LIFE.
