Cartino2D: an example of automated flood mapping

Abstract
Flood mapping can be time-consuming and complex. Cartino2D has been developed by the Cerema Méditerrannée to automate all the steps involved in flood mapping, including mesh design, 2D hydrodynamic modeling (Telemac2D) and post-processing. Cartino2D has two modes: rain and flow. These two modes will be used depending on the data being injected into the model.
Cartino2D’s originality lies above all in the management of the boundary conditions used during modeling. In fact, the DTM is processed to reconstitute a free condition downstream of the domain. This avoids the numerous numerical instabilities caused by the free condition implemented as standard in Telemac2D.
During this seminar, we will look at an example of Cartino2D application in the Mosson and Lez watersheds, which cover an area of around 700 km2.
