An assessment of chromium remediation on magnetite-coated surfaces using spectral induced polarization.
My research focuses on the application of Spectral Induced Polarisation (SIP) as a non-invasive tool for monitoring heavy metal remediation using reactive barrier materials and I am currently a PhD student at the University of Kassel.
Monitoring heavy metal remediation relies on detecting contaminant breakthroughs. Spectral Induced Polarization (SIP) offers a noninvasive technique to detect changes in mineral surface properties due to sorption. In an experiment using magnetite-coated sand to simulate a reactive barrier, SIP detected Cr(VI) adsorption. SIP signals indicate its potential as an early warning tool for monitoring the effectiveness of reactive barriers.
