Seminar Magdalena Suchora

Dr Magdalena Suchora is coming at ISTO for a short-term research visit at Continental Biogeosystems Group. Her visit will be founded by the ATHENA Visiting Researchers programme. She will work with the group about diagnosing the potential of the palaeoecological methods she is specialized in – subfossil Cladocera and zooplankton (Cladocera, Rotifera) resting stages – to enhance the indicative and interpretative value of selected lake sediment cores collected int he Egoutier watershed (SNO Observil).

The title of her seminar is Zooplankton as paleo-proxy in aquatic ecosystems – from fossil remains to sedDNA approach.

Abstract

Zooplankton are excellent bioindicators of lake health, given their intermediate food web position. However, not all groups leave identifiable remains. Based on own research and the literature review I will demonstrate the potential of Cladocera main zooplankton group traditionaly used by paleoecologist, in inferring past environmental changes, as well as our first attempts to use sedDNA in tracking changes in lake sediments (last 2k).
