ISTO have organized a 2 day-workshop on experimental rock deformation at Orleans on January 30th and 31st 2020. The workshop comprised 22 participants and has brought experts from all over the world (USA, Japan, U.K., Israel, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, France) to ISTO. Experimental rock deformation at high temperatures and high pressures is the basis for the understanding and modeling of deformation processes in the Earth. The high pressures and temperatures require a specialized technology and can only be performed with a solid pressure medium. This technique involves special calibration and correction techniques, and the experts of different laboratories have compared their methods, techniques, and routines for experiments. Although the technology is used worldwide for some time, it was the first meeting of this type, and the participants have decided to continue the series of such workshops in the future, because it is an important forum for exchanging and developing knowledge for experimental rock deformation.
